Loevestein Castle in Gelderland Poederoijen was looking for a new dining chair, which could also serve as a conference chair.
The express wish was: a sustainable product.
Sustainability fits in the style of the Castle. The Castle also has a heating system that uses geothermal energy. Ien Stijns, director of Loevestein: "The children of our children also need a healthy planet to live on."

Every object present in the Castle, needs to come as much as possible from the places nearby. Moreover, they have to be made out of renewable and recyclable materials. This idea does indeed fits perfectly in the way of thinking of the illustrious prisoner of Loevestein, Hugo de Groot, who was the founder of modern international law - nearly 400 years ago.

With the above as background and inspired by the Cradle to Cradle® philosophy, WeLL Design has developed a comfortable, castle worthy and ‘green’ chair.
The combination of the comfortably designed seat and back on the one hand and the active position of the lightweight frame on the other hand, led to the name ‘De Krekel’ (The Cricket).

De Krekel is made out of renewable and recyclable materials. At the end of its life, the chair can be disassembled to the original materials. These materials can be recycled into new raw materials from which new ‘Crickets’ can be produced.
