Grillpaal barbecue
The Grillpaal or “grill post” is a new kind of barbecue with a vertical firebox. With air sucked in from below and the meat or fish suspended in special holders at exactly the right distance from the flame, there is no danger from burning fat and harmful substances in the smoke are not deposited on the food.
The Grillpaal was conceived on holiday, after inventor Marnix Rosman ordered grilled sardines on the beach. As he explains, “They are always strung from a line between two sticks in the sand and cooked next to a wood fire.”
WeLL Design was approach to develop the Grillpaal as a commercial product. The improvements we made included the development of a core inside the firebox to heat the fuel more evenly and make it burn less quickly. We also came up with idea of supplying a ready-to-use starter pack of fuel to make the experience easier for the first-time user.
In October 2007, the Grillpaal was voted joint runner-up – out of 2500 entries – in the TV innovation show Holland’s Best Idea.
